Menton to Host Boston’s First Scent Dinner

Scent Dinner at Menton

A Scent Dinner

with
The New York Times’ Perfume Critic Chandler Burr
Sunday, September 26, 2010

6:00pm Cocktail Reception
6:30pm-9:30pm 5-Course Dinner

A very special evening at Menton. This September, dynamic speaker, prolific writer, and renowned perfume critic Chandler Burr will host Boston’s first Scent Dinner at Menton.

Scent Dinners are the combination of fine dining and a stimulating interactive master class in scent & perfume; two parallel dinners, one olfactory and invisible, the other gustatory and edible. With each course, Chandler will share both a great gourmand perfume and its raw materials. Then guests will taste the gastronomical equivalent of those scents in a dish created by Chef Colin Lynch.

This olfactory-inspired, gustatory event includes Chandler’s passionate and entertaining storytelling and an opportunity for guests to learn about the perfume industry and its history, engage their senses, and think about food a bit differently.

About Chandler Burr

Chandler Burr is The New York Times’ perfume critic and the author of several books including The Perfect Scent: A Year Inside the Perfume Industry in Paris & New York and The Emperor of Scent: A True Story of Perfume and Obsession.

He speaks around the world on scent and perfume and hosts interactive master classes in gourmand scents; this series explains perfume and shows fragrance’s structure and artistry, with food-based scent raw materials (think absolutes of cinnamon, clove, pepper) and gourmand perfumes like “Angel” (which uses the scent of cotton candy) and “Shalimar” (the scent of vanilla) reflected in a multi-course gourmet meal. Chandler has led Scent Dinners with top chefs in cities around the world including Manhattan, Paris, Florence, and Cabo. This will be his first in Boston.
